{"id":39,"date":"2014-08-04T05:39:42","date_gmt":"2014-08-04T05:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/66.147.242.196\/~tibetan8\/?page_id=39"},"modified":"2015-03-10T22:04:23","modified_gmt":"2015-03-10T22:04:23","slug":"buddhism","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tibetanbuddhistcentre.org.nz\/?page_id=39","title":{"rendered":"Buddhism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #26a1cb;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to insight into the true nature of life.\u00a0It employs methods\u00a0such as meditation and the study of Buddhist texts to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness, and wisdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The basic tenets of Buddhist teachings are straightforward and practical: nothing is fixed or permanent, actions have consequences, and change is possible. It is also a\u00a0set of guidelines which brings people happiness through non-violence, and embodies a belief in reincarnation, i.e.,\u00a0the\u00a0continuation of the mind after we die.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">As part of the Mahayana tradition, the Tibetan Buddhism taught at the Dhargyey Centres places a strong emphasis\u00a0on heartfelt practice designed to benefit others.\u00a0For instance, one central line of reasoning trains us to develop compassion\u00a0for all\u00a0living beings since\u00a0they have been our mothers in previous lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Mahayana Buddhism's focus on benefiting others is also based on the recognition\u00a0that we all wish for happiness. That means\u00a0instead of criticising\u00a0others\u00a0when they engage in harmful actions, Buddhism encourages us\u00a0to have compassion since they are acting against their own interests out of ignorance. That does not mean, however, that we shouldn't still express\u00a0forceful opposition to what they are doing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Buddhists don\u2019t go door to door to convert people to their way of life. As followers of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, we accept\u00a0his advice that one must be very cautious about changing religions as this can lead to undesirable results such as\u00a0negative attitudes towards one's original religion.
